10/29 (Tues): The Honorable Brian Kim has kindly agreed to organize Intellectual Property Law Journal of University of Baltimore annual reception with the University of Baltimore and University of Maryland law students. The reception will take place on TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2002 AT 7:00 P.M. at the University of Baltimore Law School.

10/31(Thurs): The third graders (about 75 of them) from the Mt. Royal Elementary School will be visiting our campus to Trick or Treat on Thursday, October 31st from 1:00 - 2:30pm.

11/7-9 (Thurs-Sat): NAPABA/NAPALSA Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA. You can now register for the conference online at www.napaba.org. IF you are interested in the Job Fair, please submit your resume in Word format to napalsajobfair@yahoo.com by midnight on Oct 20, 2002. The Convention will take place at the Swissotel in Atlanta. Rates are $150 per single or double occupancy. Make reservations at the Swissotel- (404)365-0065, and mention NAPABA to receive the $150 rates. The Welcoming Reception begins at 5:30 PM on November 7, 2002.

2/21 (Fri): Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Program invites you to An Evening of Theatre! 7:00 p.m., Ring Auditorium, Hirshhorn Museum, 7th Street & Independence Avenue. The Washington, D.C.-based Asian American theater company, ASIA: Asian Stories in America, will stage two one-act plays, Drizzle and Change, by Sung Rno. Mr. Rno is a New York-based playwright whose productions have been seen throughout the country. A discussion about Korean Americans in theater will follow. Reception to follow performance. 2/26 (Wed): BLSA is hosting a panel discussion on the Death Penalty for Black History Month. The event will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 from 5:30-6:45 p.m. at the Langsdale Auditorium. The address is 1420 Maryland Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.

The moderator is F. Michael Higginbotham, Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore. On the panel are: the Honorable Emanuel Brown, Judge, Baltimore City District Court; Joseph I. Cassilly, State's Attorney, Harford County State's Attorney Office; Jane Henderson, Co-Director, Quixote Center; Ray Paternoster, Criminology Professor, University of Maryland, and A. Dwight Pettit, Attorney, A. Dwight Pettit, P.A.

The death penalty is a very timely issue and BLSA thought that it was appropriate to hold a balanced panel discussion on the topic to enlighten the student body and the community. BLSA would like APLSA disseminate the information to its members, UM APLSA members and anyone else who may be interested. There will be at least thirty minutes reserved for questions and answers.

TBA in February: APALSA/WBA/BLSA Minority Women Panel. APALSA/BLSA/WBA are co-sponoring this panel discussion in hopes that this will evolve into an annual event. We'll bring distinguished panelists from all over Maryland to talk to the students on how they ended up where are today. 3/15 (Sat): Becoming American: The Chinese Experience. Carmichael Auditorium, National Museum of American History, 14th St. and Constitution Avenue entrance, 6:30 p.m. Bill Moyers presents a 30-minute highlight from the PBS film that will premiere in the spring. Through interviews with historians, descendants, and recent immigrants, the film tells the story of Chinese migration to the United States. Christine Chen, executive director of the Organization of Chinese Americans, and Williams College scholar K. Scott Wong, join Moyers for a brief presentation and question-and-answer session with the audience.

4/15 (Tues): Final APALSA meeting at 5pm in room 203. This meeting will be very important so I'm going to make this *MANDATORY* especially if you'd like to be involved with APALSA for the next school year. The most important item on the agenda will be election for next year's officer. The positions available are: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Recruitment Representative. The nominations and elections will take place at the meeting. Other items to discuss include the Spring Block Party and a possible end-of-year cookout somewhere and possibly Hawaii. Pizza, chicken wings, and drinks will be provided.

The agenda will be as follows:
I. Officer Elections
II. Sprink Block Party - this will occur on April 24. I have reserved a booth and plan on having the video games set up like the last block party. Doritos and candy will also be sold. I will need volunteers to help out in any fashion from 12 - 6pm.
III. Kickball Tournament - Regrettably, kickball must be postponed.
IV. End of year cookout - If anyone will be around after finals, we could all get together for a cookout.

4/17(Thur): Domestic Violence and Immigration Forum. The Family Law association will be hosting a talk about the probelms domestic violence victims face, their fear to come forward because of their alien status. Attorney Brooke Do from the Women's Law Center of Maryland will be the speaker. It will take place in Room 210. Pizza will be serverd.

4/24(Thur): The Women, Leadership & Equality Program at the University of Maryland School of Law; MARGINS Law Journal; and The Women's Bar Association of The University of Maryland are hosting a symposium entitled, "Title IX: Women, Athletics and the Law." The program will be held on April 24, 2003 from 3:10-5:00 PM with a reception immediately following the discussion. It will be held at the University of Maryland School of Law, 500 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD in the Ceremonial Moot Court Room.

4/24(Thur): Spring Block Party. This event will be held on Thur., April 24th from 12:00pm -6:00pm. It is scheduled to be held at Gordon Plaza, however, if there is inclement in the weather, it will be in the Basement of the Law School. Ted has reserved a booth and we plan on having the video games set up, much like the fall block party. Doritos candy will also be sold. We will need volunteers to help out, in any fashion, from 12 - 6pm. If you can volunteer some time, please contact either Ted or Reema via email. In addition, a shift sign up sheet will be posted on the APALSA board. This fundraiser has been successful for us in the past, we hope to have another good turnout.

5/1 (Thur): Film screening of Arirang: The Korean American Journey. 6:30 p.m. at Baird Auditorium in National Museum of Natural History. May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and this month's feature will kick off the heritage month festivities around the Smithsonian. Tom Coffman's Arirang: The Korean American Journey, a film in two parts, will screen in its entirety. The screening will be the world premiere of the film's second half.
